Gnocchi is the best of both worlds in our house. It’s like a pasta for the Italian in me. But made of potato for the Irish in my wife. its easily our go-to for pasta night in our home.
And if you want to add some protein to your gnocchi, you can’t go wrong with adding a little Italian sausage. I LOVE spicy Italian sausage.
I actually learned recently a better way to prepare sausage. The trick is to bring your cold sausage up to a simmer in a pan of water. Once it simmers, turn off the heat and let it come up to 140/150F.
Then sear it in a pan of oil to get the nice crispy outside and its totally worth it. The sausage cuts through like butter, and super juicy!
It’s perfect companion for this gnocchi and marinara skillet.
And if you want to add a little more flavor to your gnocchi and marinara skillet, add some fresh basil to the mix. It’s my favorite thing to add to any pasta dish.
For the marinara, feel free to use your favorite canned sauce, or if you want to do a big Sunday batch, check out my marina recipe here.
This gnocchi and marinara bake will serve 3-4 people easily, especially served with sausage and some garlic bread for dipping.
Gnocchi is a lot more filling than it looks but is totally worth the food coma you’ll go into!
