Bacon and Bleu Cheese Slaw Burger
If you’ve never had a slaw burger before you have not lived. I cannot believe I’ve never thought to put coleslaw on a burger before and it’s quite amazing. I put together a quick red cabbage coleslaw with bleu cheese and bacon and topped it on big fat burger patty. It’s vegetables and beef. It’s gotta be healthy, right?!
Using my Juicy Burger recipe, I grilled up some massive half pound patties that held there own against this coleslaw and tossed it in a bun with a bit of ketchup on my slaw burger. Honestly though, the ketchup is totally optional because the bacon and bleu cheese coleslawย on top of thisย the burgerย on it’s own in the bun is really all you need!
This coleslaw is super easy to make especially if you own a mandolin, since it juliennes and shreds the cabbage and carrots super quick. I then used a mayonnaise, dijon and apple cider base then added a littleย Nature’s Seasonsย and a bit of cilantro to brighten things up.
This red cabbage cole slawย a very light and crisp slaw and with some bleu cheese and bacon gives you all the flavors you need to dump on top of a nice thick burger! It even makes a great side dish on it’s own so you have plenty of options here !
You will definitely love the crunch from the red cabbage along with all the flavors going on. This slaw burger is in no way your averageย boring burger. If you want to entertain some guests, or just treat the family to something new, get the grill started up and get this going now!

Bacon and Bleu Cheese Slaw Burger
Ingredients
Bleu Cheese Bacon Coleslaw
- 1/2 whole red cabbage
- 2 whole carrots
- 2 tbsp course grained dijon mustard
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 3 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1 tsp nature's seasons
- 2 tsp cilantro
- 4 oz bleu cheese
- 4 strips cooked bacon
Burger
- 2 lbs 80/20 ground beef
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 whole shallot
- 2 tsp yellow mustard
- 4 whole hamburger buns
Instructions
Prepare the cole slaw
- In a mixing bowl, shredd red cabbage and julienne carrots. Add mayonnaise, dijon mustard, and apple cider vinegar; mix together.
- Add bleu cheese, bacon, and natures season, mixing until evenly incorporated.
- Add cilantro and mix in about 1 tsp at a time. taste before adding more so that it doesn't overtake your slaw. Cover and let set in the fridge for about 20-30 minutes
Cooking the Burger
- In a large bowl ground beef, minced garlic and shallots, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, and a pinch of salt and pepper
- Fold until everything is evenly mixed in, but don't over mix!
- Form your patties into about 1/2 pound burgers, use your thumb to make a little dent int he middle to keep from shrinking too much.
- Grill for about 5-8 minutes on each side. You can also toast your buns if you want to be cool like me!
- Let the burger sit for about 2-3 minutes.
- Add on a bun with a little ketchup and add a heaping portion of that bleu cheese bacon cole slaw. Enjoy!

If I were to ever go on a diet I would have to avoid your blog like the plague. I don’t even like bleu cheese that much but this burger makes me wanna reconsider. Great post Derek!
