Apricot Whiskey Iced Tea Cocktail
I don’t normal make apricot whiskey, but it’s been something that I wanted to experiment with after my drunken apricot cobbler. I had plenty apricots left over and was curious what would happen if I let the apricots steep in the whiskey for awhile. It was an experiment well worth the wait!
I took a bottle of whiskey and poured it into a vacuum container that I recently got along with apricots and sealed it shut. Then placed it in the fridge for about 6 weeks. I honestly wasn’t sure how this was going to turn out, but I’m glad I did it because it definitely took on the flavor of apricots. Feel free to experiment with fresh or cooked apricots as well to get a different flavor.
Don’t worry, the fruit wont go bad. I was a little weary of this – I’m not expert at doing this, but after doing a little research, I found that alcohol 80 proof and above is what you’re looking for to keep fruit from spoiling over time. Good for me whiskey is about 86 to 100 proof depending on what you’re getting.
You can definitely get a hint of apricot that makes you think of one thing and one thing only. Iced tea. So it was only natural to use this apricot whiskey concoction for an iced tea cocktail!
I used some sweet tea and about a shot and a half of whiskey, and it hit the spot during hot and muggy weather we’ve been having. And with another kid just around the corner, it was nice to get the edge off while I’m sitting here anxiously waiting for our baby girl to come into this world!
I would highly recommend trying to make your own apricot whiskey, and adding your own twist to it. I think my next batch will have a few orange peels and maybe a cinnamon stick to add something extra going into the holidays!
