Lamb is a protein that is a little outside my comfort zone. But, I do enjoy trying new things and sharing my experiences. I love greek food, and know without a doubt this was a good way to do a lamb in a greek style burger!

I’ve always been a little standoffish when it comes to lamb. I don’t know why, its just something I’ve never tried. I know plenty of people who like it, and I unkowingly eat it all the time when eating gyro at my favorite greek joint.

So I figured if I’m going to try my crack at a lamb burger what better way than to go with a similar profile to a gyro!

Using fresh mint, dill, garlic, cumin and coriander, I mix it into my ground lamb. Then decided, if I’m going full on Greek style burger, I HAVE to make a tzatziki sauce!

Definitely no need to make your own tzatziki, but if you’re feeling in the mood, I have a recipe coming from this recipe that really came out well! It takes a little effort, but if you’re a huge tzatziki fan, you’ve gotta try it!

After grilling your burgers, slather a healthy dose of tzatziki on your bun, with some fresh greens. Top it with your burger, feta cheese, and some tomato and cucumber and you have a greek style lamb burger that is going to impress.

I have to admit, this was totally experimental and I’m so happy with how this turned out! the burger had that flavor profile that you’d expect from Greek food, and the tzatziki really ties it all together. You’ve got to try out this recipe and let me know what you think!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground lamb
  • 1/4 cup fresh mint chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh dill chopped
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 cup tzatziki sauce
  • 4 whole brioche buns
  • 4 slices tomato
  • 8 slices cucumber
  • 1 cup spring salad mix

Instructions

  • In a bowl, combine ground lamb, mint, dill, cumin, coriander, salt and garlic. Try not to over mix to keep the texture from becoming the consistency of meatloaf! Form into 4 patties.
  • With your grill preheated to medium high heat, place your patties on the grates, and flip after about 3-5 minutes per side. Cook until internal temperature is 160F.
  • Slather your bun with tzatziki, and garnish with spring salad mix, tomato and cucumber. Enjoy!
